Autohemotherapy with PRP (platelet-rich plasma)

An excellent alternative for orthopaedic conditions.

Autohemotherapy, or self-blood therapy, with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is performed by taking blood from the arm vein. The blood is then separated into its components (red and white blood cells and platelets). Only the platelets are used in the treatment. They are not only responsible for stopping bleeding, but also activate various growth factors. These stimulate the regeneration and self-healing processes of the body.

Depending on the area of application, the body's own platelets are injected again or used externally. In dentistry, for example, the PRP is applied to the wound area to encourage the bone- and wound-healing process after the removal of a tooth. In wrinkle treatment in medical aesthetics, wrinkles can be filled in with an injection of endogenous platelet-rich plasma. The procedure has also proven successful in cartilage and joint formation, even in advanced stages.

There is no risk of allergies or other side effects in self-blood therapy with PRP, since the PRP comes from the body and no additives or preservatives are used. The therapy is therefore suitable for many patients, but should not be performed during acute infections or tumor diseases.

PRP treatment is used in the following cases

  • Oral surgery and periodontics to encourage bone and wound healing
  • Acute sports injuries, overuse injuries due to sports
  • Arthritis therapy
  • Osteoporosis
  • Chronic back pain
  • Impaired healing
  • Medical aesthetics

PRP treatment is a constantly evolving, study-oriented procedure. It is an excellent alternative to traditional treatments, such as cortisone injections for orthopedic conditions. In osteoarthritis, especially in the knees and hips, it may delay or even remove the need for a planned joint replacement operation.
